SAD GRRRLS CLUB PRESENTS

SAD GRRRLS FEST 2016 – SYDNEY

Sad Grrrls Fest is back and it’s bigger and better than ever. Australia’s largest Female-Fronted music festival is bringing twenty-five acts together in a one-day event celebrating gender diversity in the music industry. Each act has at least one non-male (female, non-binary or gender-non-conforming) member, to contrast overall industry trends where women make up on average only 20-30% of festival line ups.

The line up this year showcases some of Sydney’s best, and is headlined by Le Pie, Coda Conduct and Twin Caverns. There’s also market stalls, and plenty of fun feminist times to be had!

ALL SAD GRRRLS CLUB EVENTS ARE SAFER SPACES:

We acknowledge that this event takes place on occupied Aboriginal land of the Cadigal Wangal People of the Eora Nation, and we acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to the Indigenous Elders past, present and future.

Sad Grrrls Club also acknowledge that inspiration for this event comes from Sad Girls y qué, a feminist collective with strong roots in Chicana Chola Culture. We acknowledge the history of 'sad girl' being appropriated by white feminism and wish to acknowledge the incredible power of and debt we owe to these Chicana wom*n.

A safer space is a supportive, non- threatening environment that encourages open-mindedness, respect, a willingness to learn from others, as well as physical and mental safety. It is a space that is critical of the power structures that affect our everyday lives, and where power dynamics, backgrounds, and the effects of our behavior on others are prioritized. It’s a space that strives to respect and understand survivors’ specific needs. Everyone who enters a safer space has a responsibility to uphold the values of the space.

As individuals, we are all responsible for our own actions and their consequences. There is zero tolerance for abusive, violent and hateful behaviour. Please be mindful of your own words and actions. Sad Grrrls Club events strive to be free of:
-Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Ableism, Discrimination & Hate Speech
-Bullying & put downs

-Illegal/inappropriate behavior
-The usage of illicit substances on our premises and excessive intoxication on our premise
-Kicking or throwing of objects

-Abusive/threatening behaviour including verbal & physical violence
We Ask That You:

-Assess the way in which you dominate spaces; ask yourself “does my behaviour make people around me feel uncomfortable or threatened?”
-Don’t touch people without asking for their consent first
-Ask about peoples preferred pronouns. Sad Grrrls Tour is a gender diverse initiative therefore the way we address people can really affect them – use “they” and “their” as pronouns if you’re unsure. Don’t assume that a person adheres to the he/she binary.
